Opening of Schirmer's Family Hotel.''''Bold text'
This fine hotel, although it has been open to the public for about six months, was not finally opened until Thursday last August 16th when a pigeon match took place, followed by a dinner in the evening. This hotel which has an imposing appearance, was built by the present enterprising proprietor.
It is a fine two story building with a balcony over the main entrance. There are twenty rooms in the hotel, all of which are well furnished and fitted up and are lofty and spacious. One great novelty is that gas and water are laid on all through the house. The gas is made on the premises by a patent machine while the water is forced by an engine from an underground tank to one above the first landing. This must be a great convenience. The gas, though not equal to coal gas is better than kerosene. Altogether the house offers better accommodation than is to be found in most country towns both for man and beast. We can only wish the proprietor success in his undertaking. The cost of the building was about 3,000 pounds.
