After World War II, the Two Wells Show Society was disbanded, and all its buildings and improvements were sold.
The society's grounds, including the site of the present oval were on Crown lease land, and were subsequently placed under the control of the Mallala District Council to be used for recreational purposes.
The area where the oval is now situated was then in a very unattractive state, and included an old quarry into which much of the storm water from the main street drained. Mr Hart put forward a proposal that the grounds be developed into an oval, but received little support with most people stating that it would be underwater for most of the winter season. However with the support of the then clerk of the Mallala Council, the late Andrew Driscoll, the project began to gain favour.
An unused road at the south end of the ground had to be closed, and the area encompassed part of the land that is cemetery reserve. A portion of the proceeds of the sale of the Show Society's buildings etc. was donated to the newly-formed Recreation Committee. These funds, combined with the efforts of an enthusiastic and energetic committee, and a sympathetic district council, resulted in the beginning of work on the new oval, which has eventually become one of the best in the district. The original clubrooms were built from funds raised in the town and its surrounding area, and the pines growing around the perimeter of the ground were planted by schoolchildren of the district to commemorate the official end of World War II.
